Okanagan Wildfire Aid

From the Board and members of the Kelowna Riding club and surrounding community our hearts are with the families who have been affected by the fires. The devastation of the Okanagan wildfires reaches far beyond what we can see in the headlines.  Our hearts are with the families who have lost their homes, barns, pastures and the places that hold years of memories and hard work.

 For many, horses are not just animals they are family partners and a way of life.  Losing a home and barn means losing more than land it means losing a place where generations of care, trust and love were built every day.

 

To everyone affected especially those facing the uncertainty of evacuation, displacement and rebuilding, please know that your community is thinking of you.

We are aware that a number of our members and broader horse community have suffered catastrophic losses and many more people and animals that have been displaced from their homes or have had immeasurable loss to their properties.  The Okanagan horse community has opened their homes and barns to take in many many evacuated horses and livestock. It makes us very proud to be part of this community.

The strength resilience and compassion shown by our local equine community, volunteers, neighbour's and 1st responders during these difficult times is truly inspiring.  Holding space for all the families’ horses and livestock impacted by these fires may those who have lost so much find support comfort and hope in the days ahead.

The Kelowna Riding Club has partnered with Marie Bennett and the registered charity  www.horserescuefund.org Monetary donations are eligible for a tax deductible receipt.

​

This will enable us to be able to help coordinate emergency financial aid for transportation, feed, shelter and veterinary care.  We will also be partnering with Chelsea Lesnoski to help coordinate a single drop point for donated items such as feed, hay, tack and essential everyday items. Chelsea has been an integral contact for evacuation of animals in the Summerland fire.

Together our community will come together to support our friends and fellow equestrians through this incredibly difficult time.
